York University/Lassonde School of Engineering

The Lassonde School of Engineering is a new professional school designed to create Renaissance Engineers™ – entrepreneurial engineers with a social conscience and a sense of global citizenship.

At Lassonde we’re empowering Renaissance Engineers™ by transforming the student experience, revolutionizing the classroom environment, developing a multidisciplinary curriculum and integrating learning with industry.

Our students are Lassonde’s greatest assets. Every student is a citizen of the Lassonde School of Engineering. We are building a strong community of Lassondian citizens across disciplines, specialisms and perspectives to create the home of the Renaissance Engineer™.

The Lassonde Scholarship, established by Canadian mining entrepreneur and philanthropist Pierre Lassonde, is one of the most generous awards offered in Canada (up to $80,000 over four years) for students who demonstrate the traits of a Renaissance Engineer™.

Our New Home
The new home of Lassonde is a 169,000 sq. ft., five-floor citizen-designed building featuring innovative classrooms, interactive spaces and a Students First service centre.

Student Expansion
In the coming years we are set to expand student numbers to 2,000 undergraduates with an additional 70 new faculty from around the world. This year we have added Electrical Engineering to our programs and in 2014 we’ll launch civil and mechanical engineering programs for students.

Lassonde is partnering with the world-renowned Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University to offer a truly multidisciplinary professional engineering program including joint BEng-JD programs and an MBEng combining engineering with business.

Industry Education
Lassondians have opportunities to experience the world beyond the campus integrated within their curriculum pathway including a new co-op program that gets underway in 2014 to compliment our existing technology internship program.

BEST Entrepreneurship for Engineers
Entrepreneurship is a big part of life at Lassonde. The Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science & Technology (we call it BEST) supports entrepreneurial programs and initiatives at Lassonde enabling engineering students to develop business skills and understand what it takes to launch their own venture – including a start-up incubator where engineers work with business and law students to create new enterprises.
